Sharks at Kudadoo

World Oceans Day 2020 has an ambitious mission: gain protection for 30% of the oceans by 2030. Protected areas ensure a refuge for marine life but with just over 5% of the ocean currently enjoying protected status there’s a long way to go. The Maldives already has 42 Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and two are in Lhaviyani Atoll: Kuredu Express, which is a well-known shark hotspot, and Fushivaru Thila with its manta cleaning stations – both are within easy reach of Kudadoo Maldives Private Island. As well as the MPAs, the entire nation of the Maldives was declared a shark sanctuary in 2010, offering protected waters for over 30 species of sharks.

If diving with sharks is on your bucket list, Kudadoo is the perfect place for your marine adventures – your butler can arrange exhilarating dives with these magnificent creatures within the unlimited diving included in your stay. The channels between the reefs are where the sharks love to hang out and it’s not unusual to see large numbers of grey reef sharks and silver tips as well as rays at these sites – especially when your adventure involves an underwater scooter! Diving in the Maldives isn’t just about sharks though, the incredible reef ecosystems are home to an incredible variety and abundance of marine life and at Kudadoo you can experience it all, at your own pace, exclusively.
